Cosmetic Acupuncture
What is Facial Acupuncture?
Cosmetic or Facial Acupuncture can provide an alternative for patients a natural and holistic approach to anti-ageing treatment without the use of chemicals.
The treatment concentrates on points and muscles on the face to combat ageing, lift the face, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and improve elasticity and overall appearance of your skin without the side effects of chemical treatments.
Although the main focus of the treatment is using points on the face, I use my training in Five Element acupuncture to treat body points alongside facial acupuncture points to bring balance from the inside out and improve a patient’s wellbeing. I carefully select points according to the individuals needs of the patient. After a series of Facial Acupuncture treatments, patients often report that they feel healthier, more balanced have brighter eyes and sleep better.
How does Facial Acupuncture work?
Based on the 2500 year old principles of Chinese medicine, specific points are used to improve blood circulation and stimulate collagen production. A course of treatments is requires to show pronounced results and the number of treatments required depends on the individual.
Why have cosmetic acupuncture over other cosmetic procedures?
- No risks involved
- No recovery time needed
- No drugs or chemicals
- More cost effective
- Natural process
What if I have had other cosmetic procedures before?
You can still have facial acupuncture after cosmetic procedures as it is completely natural. I would to wait at least three months after having any invasive cosmetic treatments such as microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, a surgical face-lift, Botox or fillers to carry out facial acupuncture treatments.
How many treatments do I need?
Results are often noticeable after just 1-3 treatments, but a course of up to ten treatments is required to see longer lasting desired results. Typically once or twice a week for the first 5-6 treatments, then monthly or 2-3 monthly, depending on the individual.
A full course of 10 treatments allows deeper, longer lasting results and after completing a course, maintenance can prolong the results.
You might then want to come seasonally depending on the reaction. In more difficult cases, or if the patient is older, with deeper lines, you may want more sessions closer together.
Each patient is different and maintenance is needed because unfortunately, we can’t stop aging, gravity and the sun!
The effects are cumulative, so you can see lasting results for many years if you have a course of treatments closer together and with some maintenance.
Who cannot be treated with Facial acupuncture?
Patients with the following disorders will not be treated with Facial acupuncture:
- Chronic migraines
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Cancer
- Actively trying for a baby or pregnant or breast feeding

What happens during a treatment?
At the first treatment, I will take details of your medical and health history and discuss what outcomes you would like from treatments and areas of the face you would like addressing. I will preform a detox clearing treatment inserting several needles in to the back. This will ensure the body is starting treatment from an even level and this will only be performed at the first treatment.
I use vegan, cruelty-free products to cleanse the face and remove all traces of make-up and dirt.
Each treatment involves the insertion of very fine acupuncture needles in to specific areas of the body to help you feel relaxed. You will be lying on the couch with your clothes on. I will treat specific areas of the face that you would like particular work on and then an overall lifting, enhancing treatment.
The needles will be left in for 15-20 minutes while you can relax and even have a sleep!
After the needles are removed, you will feel very relaxed and some patients feel very euphoric! These feelings will pass and it is important that you stay well hydrated.
How long does the treatment last?
The first treatments takes between 1.5-2 hours and includes a medical consultation and discussion around the desired outcomes for treatment from the individual. Subsequent treatments take between 1-1.5 hours.
